Jklyn’s Blog Post #1 About Going to Church Camp

Here is a link to Jklyn’s new blog post about her first day at church camp last week.  I know she enjoyed her first experience of going to church camp, because when she came home on Friday of last week, she talked to me about it for 5 and 1/2 hours nonstop!  I’m sure you will get tickled at her adventures, and trust me be thankful you are not here for her to share with you all her bumps, scars, cuts, and scratches from all the fun she had.  You would think she was a military veteran the way she shows you every single one and tells how she got each one.  She told me that she wished she could go all summer, and all I could think about was how many more bumps, scars, cuts, and scratches she would have after a whole summer and that it would take her until Christmas to get over her excitement and finish telling me about her summer…lol.  I hope you will check out her blog!  By the way the photos from the camp are courtesy of our Pastor who took them.  Here is the link…

Fifty Shades of Gray Articles…IMPORTANT!

The link is to articles about the book “Fifty Shades of Gray” that has jumped to the top of the NY Times Bestseller List, and is being made into a movie.  Warning…Do not read these articles in front of children unless you are ready to answer questions about sin and sex!  I’ve heard a lot of excitement over this book, even saw postings from friends on Facebook that were reading it, and one that now irritates my soul where a teenager girl was starting to read it.  I didn’t know what it was about, but had a nudging in my soul that something about it wasn’t right.  I thought maybe it was horror fiction, which I don’t like, or paranormal fiction, which I also don’t like to read.  But it is worse than even these!  I’ve mentioned before that I do book reviews for Radiant Lit.com, and was happy to see that Lori Twitchell and Jill Hart had posted articles about this book, one from a reviewer perspective and one from a Christian perspective.  Knowing these women as Christian professionals working in the Publishing Field, and as mothers too, I wanted to hear what they had to say about “Fifty Shades of Gray”, and if it would explain the eerie feeling I had every time I heard this book mentioned, and it did.  I hope you will take a moment to read these articles before considering reading the book yourself, and if you are a parent I pray you don’t let you child, tween, or teen read the book at all, no matter how much they beg or make it seem innocent.  It isn’t innocent at all, and from what I can see “Fifty Shades of Gray” is no more than a Satanic work of pornography being pushed on people as good and decent fiction.  I personally see this book as a way for Satan to get a foothold into the reader’s life.  Here is the link to the articles…

I did not want to hurt so much…Rosana Salgado Burright

I did not want to hurt so much sub english.mp4 – YouTube.  This is the link to her video.

If you are hurting in your heart, going through an illness, or a tough time, or if you have been through a struggle in the past, please watch this You Tube video. My dear friend and sister-in-Christ wrote this song, and it is she who is singing and playing the guitar. Although the song is in Portuguese as her native country is Brazil, the subtitles are in English. She really has a heart for Christ Jesus, and you can feel her prayers through her music. She gives a short Bible Verse at the end, but don’t worry she also gives it in English in the subtitles.

Rosana could use your prayers too.  As I said she is originally from Brazil, but lives here in America now with her husband.  They spent their last dime on the cost of her immigration papers and now her life here is in jeopardy, because they can’t afford the $1,500 for her Green Card.  If they don’t get this she will have to go back to Brazil and start the whole process over.  Please keep her in your prayers, for her financial needs and for her ministry to women in both countries through her music and encouragement to help them overcome hurt, abuse, and more.  Thank you!

Prayer for a Fellow Blogger and Brother-in-Christ!

I want to ask all my readers who believe in the healing power of Jesus Christ to lift Scott in prayer. I’ve been through what he is going through because of a car accident back in the 1980’s, and from past physical abuse. Please lift this brother in Christ, to the Lord for healing, and the doctors he is seeing for guidance in helping Scott. Thank you!

Did you know that Marie Curie didn’t stop working on her research even after contracting radiation from her research?  Did you know that First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt once visited a tent city for veterans of the military to check on their condition…on her own?  How about Golda Meir, past Prime Minister of Israel?  Did you know that she was one of eight children and that she was also one of the only three to survive?  These are just three of the many facts that Brad Meltzer shares about the people he feels should be heroes for his daughter.  “Heroes for My Daughter” is over-flowing with many amazing facts and reasons for the heroes Meltzer picked to be heroes.  Some are facts that are taught in school, but many are facts that are not taught but should be.

I confess I’m a fan of Brad Meltzer’s Decoded show, but knowing that I wasn’t sure this book would be that good.  Often we tell people…”Stick to what you know best!”  After reading this book, I have to say that I’m glad Meltzer didn’t stick to what he knew best!  I am glad that he used his amazing ability to dig for the truth to uncover some equally amazing facts about the myriad of people in this book.  From the letter to his daughter in the beginning of the book, to the last page I was emotionally bound to the “Heroes For My Daughter”.  I was excited about sharing this book with my youngest daughter, but found that I loved it just as much as she did.  There are facts in this book, that I had never learned in school, and even recent stories about women I had never heard of who are true heroes.

I wouldn’t just recommend this for young girls, but for both parents as well, and also for single adult women who need heroes to look up to and pattern their lives after.  I may not agree with all of the people Brad Meltzer chose as heroes, but even on these few he have excellent reasons as to why they should be heroes. Meltzer chose heroes that were achievers who looked pass each of their successes to their next challenge. Some of the heroes he chose showed great compassion, or great perseverance, showing that it is important to overcome adversity, or help others overcome their adversity.  All in all, I loved Meltzer’s perspective on each hero, and on his reason for writing the the book. Our daughters need to have heroes who show moral fortitude, and perseverance and grace under pressure.  This is a must read book and should be added to every school library!

Rating…G…This is a great read on your own, but is also a good one for parents to read to their young children.

“Poems From Heaven”  is a collection of poetry that expresses all things about Christianity, from Scripture to Salvation.  Written in 5 simple chapters, the poet Uzoaga Kelechukwu, expresses his heart and soul for God.  Each chapter has a few poems addressing the theme of that chapter.  The poetry is simple, but very expressive, encouraging, and very thought-provoking.   One of my favorite quotes from the author of this book reads… “ Once you are in God’s will, once you are walking according to his purpose, you can be rest assured that He is in control, and since his thoughts towards you are thoughts of peace and not of evil, he will cause everything to work out for your good.  No matter how bad or impossible it looks.”  Uzoaga Kelechukwu expresses this thought throughout his own writing about his own relationship with Christ.

Summer Bruchetta Sampler Dinner

We’ve had a great deal of heat lately here, ozone warnings, and humidity too.  It’s just too hot for a stew, chili, or any other heavy meal.  Since Jk likes to cook, I wanted to teach her something new, easy, and light for such a day as today.  While grocery shopping yesterday we found bags of bruchetta bread on sale.  When I saw that I thought…”Hmm great snack food for those times when I don’t feel like eating much.”  But after watching Iron Chef last night something else came to me…”Why not teach Jk how to make Bruchetta?”  So tonight after a day of running errands, I decided it would be the perfect time to do just that.  We made Chicken Salad Bruchetta, a simple Cucumber-Garden Style Cream Cheese Bruchetta, Ham-Asparagus and Mozzarella Bruchetta, Tomato-Basil and Mozzarella Bruchetta, and last a Portabello Mushroom-Sweet Pepper and Ham Bruchetta.  At first she didn’t think she was going to like anything but the Ham and Asparagus ones, but as we cooked I had her taste everything to make sure the seasoning was alright.  I wish I could really describe in a few words the look on her face with each taste.  Her eyes widened, then closed as she savored each bite.  Then finally a big smile would cross her face and she would say…”Oh Mom, that is so delicious!”  Needless to say, she didn’t just eat one piece of each type of Bruchetta.  In fact, I quit counting how many times she went back for more after the third time.   Her favorite was the Tomato-Basil and Mozzarella Bruchetta.  My granddaughter, Aubrey, loved helping and her favorite was the Chicken Salad Bruchetta.  My husband and I loved them all, but we aren’t as picky as the two girls are.  Talk about a successful adventure into new foods…this was one!  Here are the pictures of our Summer Bruchetta Sampler Dinner.
